John Kerry Nominated to Succeed Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State

President Obama said today that he has nominated Sen. John Kerry to be his next secretary of state, succeeding Hillary Clinton if confirmed by Congress.

With the senator and wife Theresa Heinz-Kerry standing beside him, the president said Kerry's "entire life has prepared him for this role."

"As the son of a foreign service officer, he has a deep respect for the men and women of the State Department; the role they play in advancing our interests and values; the risks that they undertake and the sacrifices that they make along with their families," he said.

Obama said the senator's service as a Vietnam veteran taught him the "responsibility to use American power wisely, especially our military power," and the personal responsibility of sending troops into harm's way.

Kerry, 69, the Massachusetts Democrat who was his party's nominee for president in 2004, chairs the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, which makes him a logical pick for the post. And he is unlikely to face fierce opposition from senators across the aisle.

The president credited Kerry with having played a "central role" in foreign policy debates for the past three decades, including ratification of the START nuclear treaty with Russia.

The Singapore Mint was founded in 1968, after the independence of Singapore from Malaysia. It is a government company responsible for making the currency of Singapore and keeping it from being counterfeited. It has outlets in Orchard Road, where they sell special numbered banknotes and coins. The Singapore mint also runs a coin gallery, open free to the public. The mint collected S$5 million in 2009 when it organised a coin-note exchange, twice the amount of previous years, possibly due to the economic downturn.

Sons of Anarchy Season 4 First 5 Minutes Online

After their fourteen month prison sentence, the outlaw boys of SAMCRO, along with their formidable old ladies, are back in the fourth season premiere of FX’s Sons of Anarchy. Following their battles with the IRA, rival motorcycle clubs, and the law itself, the Sons have found themselves up against a very powerful new enemy: the gentrification of Charming as a result of the development deal Nate Hale put into motion before he apparently won the race for mayor. As for the club itself, most of the boys may have done time together but make no mistake that the fractures in the group’s dynamic are still there with the possibility of getting even deeper. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights of a premiere episode that promised a season of bigger changes still to come for the SOA and their loved ones.

New Enemies, New Allies

Right from the start we’re given a glimpse of a stranger in town when the boys roll down Charming’s main street on their first day out of the slammer. It turns out that this man is with the U.S Attorney's office and they’ve set up shop in Charming, in the offices right above the newly-installed San Joaquin sheriff’s department. The audience has always known that despite all their claims of being merely a motorcycle club that the boys of SAMCRO are really more akin to a motorcycle mafia—this type of wide-scale investigation into the club and its surrounding factions is long overdue after the range of criminal activities Jax, Clay, and the boys have participated in over the past three years and longer.

Update: TOC contacted Ms Penny Low and asked her if she has a response to this incident which is widely being discussed online. Ms Low responded to TOC and said:

    Thank you for your enquiry.

This is the clarification posted on my FB a couple of hours ago :

“I was so caught up in the wonderful NDP 2011 and felt so proud of being a Singaporean, that i wanted to capture that moment of pride, at the very tail end of the anthem, to share on FB with my residents. If in my enthusiasm i offended anyone, please accept my apologies. NDP is a time to unite not divide. Majulah Singapura!”

Thank you for your kind understanding.

    Best,
    Penny Low

Ms Penny Low Member of Parliament for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC was caught looking preoccupied with her mobile phone in the midst of singing the national anthem at Singapore’s 46th National Day Parade.

Aya Hirano Scandal Photos

Aya Hirano S-e-x Scandal  :The latest issue of Japanese magazine, Bubka (known for publishing accurate scandals), has published pictures of Aya Hirano in bed which looks like a 'post-sex' photo. Sources suggest that the reason behind why she was sacked by her label was due to her scandalous affairs with her band mates, following reports from Jpop Asia website.

Many are sure that the guy in the picture with her is none other than, Katsundo, a 35-year-old guitarist in Aya's band. Further revelations by insiders within her agency include, Aya being very "feisty" with her band mates and that she had slept with almost all of her band mates except for the bassist. As a result she was reported and the three who slept with her got fired.
